I've purchased 3 new Vespas since 2004 and countless accessories.
I've spent a total of $120.00 at Herb Chambers on a cover in 2004 and never spent another penny..though I've tried.

I've noticed that a lot of you are moving away from the dark side and realize the benefits of making the journey to Scooter Centrale.

GBM will do that, Evan; and even if it's not out of warranty, as long as you have a record of having it done, they wou;dn't argue.

Centrale is where I got the X9. They wouldn't let me test ride at Boston. I emailed an officer, down in Quincy, of the VCOA, who suggested Hartford. They not only sold and delivered the bike, but held my hand via email as I struggled with sheared off mirror housings, and other discomforts.
They did mix up the VIN # at the start, but when I fixed it for them, saving them a visit to the Mass Registry, they let me select a Deltran battery tender as a token of their gratitude.
It's tempting, now I can ride legally out of state, to visit there for regular service now. Unwise in winter, though, as weather could require frequent reschedulement.
Chris has been fine at Boston. Are there generic scooter service places , like there are automobile ? Andersen Cycles only sells Yamaha, but the appear, to me, to service plenty of other kinds.
GBM is the one on Mass Av in Arlington ?

Nick,

When I was looking for my GTS I took a look at Vespa Boston. I met Maz and he let me take the GTS out for a test spin because he knew I already had a scoot. He offered me a trade without ever seeing it but I sold it on my own and only did slightly better than what he was offering. Vespa Boston has been able to get the job done most of the time, the only exception so far that I know of is the tire change. I bought my scoot from Vespa Hartford and have no regrets.

Tim

I can understand why Vespa Boston is careful about allowing test rides. They're located in a high- and dangerous-traffic location. But it is strange to think of dropping a significant amount of money without finding out how the thing moves under you. To be continued....

I stopped in at Herb Chambers Vespa Boston yesterday (Sunday) to drop off Summer Scoot '07 promotional postcards and wasn't all that impressed.

They had alot of gorgeous scooters, but no visible prices, payment info or technical specs readily visible for customers to look at and compare and think about. I just assume that all of their scoots are very expensive and that you're pretty much paying just for the name.

It's great that there's service for Vespa owners right in the city, but there wasn't a real warm feeling to the place, like you get at JavaSpeed or even at Red Streak in Marlborough or at Vespa Hartford / Scooter Centrale.

I'm glad HC Vespa Boston's there, but perhaps Herb could do something about making it all the more of a scooter-friendly / customer-friendly place.

Hi all,
I'm new here, been posting at Modern Vespa for a bit. Thought I would say a hello and weigh in on an old thread (just reading back to get up to date)... Vespa Boston is not the same without Maz Sad That is the truth. But Chris has always done a great job for service and will order any part I want without guff, so I haven't felt a need to jump the boat or anything. I think the sales room can feel a bit cold, especially without Maz there, but I'm personally not too thrown by the lack of prices displayed (or wasn't when I bought my two bikes there at any rate). Don't they still have all the spec sheets? Sure did when I bought mine... but that was in Maz's day of course Smile

Anyway, I'll second the sorrow at the loss of Maz. And am happy to grump about the misuse/lack of use of our bikes by yuppies... I rescued my ET from one of them in fact Cool ~at least I can say I bought it "new" Laughing

I do not go there because ....I believe they are only interested in sales. They have to send their body work to the auto place. There is barely space for anything there; it looks like something stuck in a corner, bought just to keep someone else from getting the franchise, not any desire to have many people ride. Most shops, even Danny's and Metrowest's little ones, have a line of helmets and jackets and such. Boston hasn't the space for hardly any. They wouldn't let me test ride, but I met a very pleasant looking young woman there once, who assured me they had let HER test ride, behind the store on a 50. There have been tales here of the shop persons not properly filling out the required paperwork.
At Newport, their main business is service, and of good stuff. They have to get it right or find out why all the time. Herb only needs to sell the bike. Hartford is full on for scooters; it's all they sold until they added Benelli motorcycles recently. They got 'em in a variety of manufacturers, and price ranges, and have a service area bigger than Herb's Toyota showroom. Plus they have rides every week, plenty of gear, a parking lot in which to test ride, they have cookouts and such a few times a year. Those are the shops with which I am familiar, and why I go there instead of Herb Chambers.

I think they're very nice, actually.

Maz was great and I really liked seeing him there, but Diadoro is a really good guy, and Chris in the shop has been a constant.

Chris has always done great work on my scoots and is an honest guy.

It's tough because every dealer is going to have something you don't love. As long as they are local to you and respect you and your business, I think you're in good shape.

I'll say again that Plymouth has a very nice Vespa dealer. Out of the way, but great selection and they were quite nice.

I went to Vespa Boston just to see what they had.. In a word Nothing ! No accessories.. and just 50's and 150's.. They said they don't handle MP3's.. What a poor excuse for a dealer.. I bought mine in Plymouth and thought he didn't have much except a good mechanic.. He's got ten times the stock and a lot more in the way of "stuff" that Vespa Boston.. What a waste of my parking money..

Wild. They used to have several. Chris in the shop will get your scoot on the road though... good guy, although he's not there as often any more.

It's worth noting - they have a new general manager. Seems to be a very nice guy. Also, on the floor they used to be kind of shy on the notion of performance accessories (Chris was always a willing participant, but I believe the official stance of the store was to discourage it), but I know they are now willing to install malossi parts on scoots. Heard this from both Chris and the new GM.

Still no MP3s, though, for those looking
