Perhaps the M.C. on your certificate of origin stands for Motor-driven Cycle. Check the sticker on the head tube of the scooter. That will state what the bike is and what vehicle standards the manufacturer complied with.

Doesn't matter what I think. It's the RMV that makes the call. My registration says it's for a motorcycle. They told me I had to have a motorcycle license. Case closed. I'm on my way to getting one. Very Happy

If you have to have a plate and a MC license, maybe they will give you a MC plate. That would enable you to drive over 40...assuming it can...I guess not uphill Very Happy

Less can be more. There are joys that come with a 50 cc scoot that a "bigger" bike misses. Exploring the byways with a moped class machine can be great fun for very little money. There are tons of places you can get to with a small bike that a larger machine has problems with. Think bicycle without all the peddalling. Smile

I don't think that is the case. My Vespa LX150 can go anywhere a Vespa LX50 can go

There's something fun about going WOT on a 50cc, whereas to go the same speed on a 150+ you're puttering along (somehow less thrilling even though it's the same speed).

Different strokes for different folks, but In that respect I get quite a kick out of zipping around on my ET2 on city streets.

That said, vespalx150ma is totally right... where exactly can an LX50 go that an LX150 cannot?

Seems like riding wide open throttle would put a lot more wear and tear on a scooter than riding less that full throttle.

It surely does. You don't get much choice, though, with 50s. My point was just that it can feel more fun to go relatively fast on a slow bike than to go relatively slow on a fast bike.

Ha!
It does not seem to make sense but you are so right. Cool

you need to know how to argue with the idiots at the dmv

but here in haverhill they have no idea what the difference between a scooter and a moped is so they just ask the toip speed and if you say 30 you get a moped sticker

i will see this year when i go to register my 2006 honda ruckus
